Nova Preview

After the Boston College game on the Virgin Islands things have gone down hill quickly for the Hawks. They were close at half vs Purdue but Purdue is a second half team as shown when they played wake forest. The next game vs DePaul they had there chances to win it down the stretch. The same was true of the Rider game. When we played Cornell we couldn't stand the onslaught of the 12-0 run that the Big Red went on to start the second half.

Nova is coming of a gutsy performance that included 16 made 3-point shots on 39 shots. Hopefully the rims at the Palestra will not be as friendly to the Wildcats as the ones at the Verizon Center were.

Nova runs about 9 deep but is extremely guard oriented with little depth inside now that 5 star recruit Mouphtaou Yarou is out indefinitely with Hep B. Nova has 5 players averaging double figures. They are led by Senior Guard Scottie Reynolds. He averages about 30 minutes a game with 15 points per game. They do not have a dominate force like a Greg Monroe but Antonio Pena who is avergaging a double double every game with 12.6 points and 10.3 boards a game.

I think St Joes will come fired up for the rivalry game. I have the feeling the game will be close for 3/4 ths of the game but Nova will pull away in the end. I see the score being 79-67 Nova.

Weekend College Football Picks

First of I can not stand Tim Tebow so i will always pick against him even if Florida is playing "football power" FIU.

For the First Early game I like Pittsburgh because I feel that they will be extremely fired up and motivated after the loss in the Backyard Brawl. Also this weekend has a good chance of bad weather and this favors Pitts ground and pound strategy over Cincinnati's Ariel Assualt.

Florida v Alabama
As stated above i will pick against Florida because of Tim Tebow. First of last year Alabama had Florida stopped for 45 minutes of last years game but you have to play 60 minutes. I feel that Ingram will be effective enough for Bama to control the clock. This year Florida does not have the same team speed they did last year. Bama with a late touchdown to win it.

Texas vs Nebraska
I dont remember the glory days of Nebraska under Tom Osbourne. I really like what Bo Pelini is doing at Nebraska. However, I dont feel that Nebraska has enough offense as Zac Lee was injured last week, he did return in that game, but I feel that it will have a lingering effect on this weeks game against an extremely stout Texas Defense.

Georgia Tech vs Clemson
I like this game a lot because I love option football especially the spread triple option that Georgia Tech runs. Paul Johnson has done an extremely good job during his time at Georgia Tech and should only get better as he gets players in that were more geared for his system. Clemson has one of the best all purpose backs in American in CJ Spiller. I like Georgia Tech in another close game like last time.

First Post

This blog was mainly created for me to chronicle the exploits of the St. Joe's Men's Basketball team but I also will post my thoughts on anything sports related. I may even venture into other areas.
